Our morning with Mad

Posted on

Got up early this morning to take just our little Mad with us to the French Quarter for a couple hours. We had fun popping in and out of various shops as they opened up for the day. Made a stop for iced cafe au laits, chocolate milk, and to share an order of beignets before shopping in the French market. All while Aub enjoyed some fun at Aunt Sandy’s and Bitty spent the morning with Paw-Paw. This evening Gigi insisted Matt & I have a date night. We enjoyed a nice little Cajun dinner and a movie. This has been a fun filled, yet laid back vacation and we are loving it.

Aub’s 12th & Mad’s 8th Carnival Birthday bash

Thankfully the rain held out for what my mother in law referred to as the best party I’ve thrown for our children yet. I’ve waited years to throw this particular party and it was a blast! We rented a bounce house and turned our back yard into a colorful mini carnival. The kids were all given carnival tickets to play games like tin can crash, ring toss, bean bag toss, potato sack races, and we even had a tattoo and photo booth.

Inside we had fresh popped popcorn, cracker jacks, carnival peanuts, cotton candy, mini funnel cakes, mini corn dogs, goldfish, carnival animal cookies, popcorn chicken, carnival punch, and a variety of candy and three different kinds of colorful homemade cupcakes. For party favors we had cracker jacks, carnival animal cookies, & sidewalk chalk.

Eight!

How is it possible that our little love bug turned today? Eight? She’s such a happy, loveable, free spirit that marches to the beat of her own drum.

This morning she woke up at 5:30am for her last day of 2nd grade with a huge smile when we handed her her first of 8 gifts she’ll receive today. New pjs and a birthday ribbon to wear for pajama day at school. We went to pick up a couple dozen donuts from her favorite donut shop to share with her class mates. I picked up her lunch request and went to have lunch with her and Bitty. Then went to the store for a few things to celebrate her birthday this evening with a few friends and family. I wonder if this kiddo realizes just how loved she is? I also wonder if she knows it’s looking like she’s going to be a shorty like her mama? She’s a good two inches shorter than her big sissy was when she turned eight. Too cute! Happy 8th birthday Mad!

Today was our Mad’s 2nd grade award ceremony. Straight A’s all year and a special class award. She’s a bright light with a big heart. She also has a huge love for reading like her mama. So proud of her many accomplishments this year, but most of all her ability to be who she wants to be without a care in the world. She’ll move mountains!

Dance recital 2017

Today was Aub & Bitty’s  dance rehearsal and recital. Aub’s fourth year of dancing complete and Bitty’s first!

We started our day by waking the girls up at 5:30am. My two girls that are very much so like me, not morning people, ha ha. Surprisingly it went very smoothly. Hair and makeup done and out the door within an hour. Picked them up breakfast on the way to rehearsal that started at 8am.

Bitty has been talking about dancing on that big stage like her sissy since last May. Last May we weren’t sure we’d keep her off of the stage while she watched her sister dance. So she was beyond ready today.

This year they are remodeling the university where their recital was being held. With 120 dancers, and all of the dressing rooms under construction it was sure to be an interesting day. So they split it up into two separate recitals to attempt to make it easier on everyone. Rehearsal with a tad chaotic, but rehearsal went off without a hitch. And thankfully the rain held out until this evening after we got home!

Since I’m Bitty’s dance mom for their class I needed to stay back stage with the little ladies the entire time. So Aub’s Nannie Boo was a huge help and stayed in the back to help out with Aub’s class as well. Lucky for me, Bitty danced right after her big sister for both dances so we both got to watch Aub dance.

This year the theme was “Lets go to the movies”.

Aub danced to:

“Mama Mia” for tap & “Ghostbusters” for hip hop

Bitty danced to:

“When I grow up” for tap & “Do Re Mi” for ballet

Mad went to almost all of Bitty’s dance classes with me this year. She loved helping with the girls and even learned the dances herself. She was thrilled to stay back stage with Nannie Boo and I to help the girls today. She especially loved watching her sisters dance from the side of the stage. Today it was determined that she can dance next year and wear a boys costume for recital if she’d like. She’s estatic! And so are her Daddy and I to get to see all three of our lovelies dance together next year, and even more so, that she still gets to be her own little unique self.

I’m so proud of all of the hard work our girls put in this year. I love getting to watch them do something they enjoy so much. They never cease to amaze me.

Took me a day to really get through my thoughts about the results from Mad’s allergy test. Some results we expected, one was a little bit of a shock.

The simple results are that she’s mildly allergic to mold and dust mites. Her doctor only suggested a hypoallergenic pillow case and a hypoallergenic bed cover. I found some nice bamboo covers on Amazon and ordered them for all of our beds since well, Mad’s known to crash wherever her head lands by 8pm the latest. And that’s the least we can do to protect her little lungs.

Along with probably half of Texas, she has a moderate allergy to Mountain Cedar. Which is no surprise because she always gets sick in the fall from it. Oddly enough she’s not allergic to Oak. Which made her very happy because she knows there are a lot of old oak trees she loves in my hometown.

Also not very shocking, yet disappointing, she is highly allergic to cats. On a scale 10 would be a severe allegy and she came in at a whopping 32. This broke her heart. We did however confirm that if we really want a cat, both her and her daddy (also allergic to cats) can be around a hairless cat since they are considered hypoallergenic! This made Mad and I giggle, because ugly as they are we have a weak spot for them and wouldn’t mind having one for a pet someday.

I think the one that really shocked us or caught us off guard was to find out that on that scale she came in at a 28 and is also highly allergic to dogs. I mean really imagine our surprise in this fact. Since she’s never known a day in her almost eight years without our dog, Najah. Turns out because of that, she’s basically immune to Najah.

So now we know what some of her triggers are. It’s not to say she can never be around a cat or dog. Now we know the measures that need to be taken when she is exposed to them.

Blood work & garbage pails

Our little Mad has been a little under the weather since we came home from New Orleans. At first we thought maybe it was from being around a cat a lot pretty much for her first time. Whatever it was made her asthma start acting up and by the time we got home she  started up with a low grade fever too. Matt and I decided to bring her to the doctor and have her checked out today. I’m glad we did. Her little lungs are tricky. A common cold for any other kiddo can land her with walking pneumonia in a matter of days. So we’re really cautious with her. She was already beginning to get bronchitis this time. Her doctor also decided she’s old enough to go ahead and do an allergy panel on her so we’ll know exactly what her triggers are and hopefully be able to head off some of her problems in the future. Downside, she had to have blood drawn for the first time. Thankfully she is a tough cookie. It was probably helpful that I promised her a trip to the store for some new garbage pail cards. At any rate, she sat in my lap and didn’t shed a tear. By the end of the week we’ll have the results. She’s excited she gets to stay home with me tomorrow as well. I’m happy she’ll be feeling better soon and okay, I’ll enjoy spending the day with her tomorrow too!
