A month worth of blogs in one…

Somehow life has been so busy that I just realized I have almost a month worth of blogs I’m behind on! So I’ll attempt to get caught up now…

-3rd Annual pillows-

On Good Friday Daddy took off of work to go with our lil monsters and I to deliver 100+ homemade pillows, 40+ cards from Aub’s 4th grade class & Mad’s Kindergarten class, & bracelets from knot geek to our local Methodist Children’s hospital for our 3rd consecutive year. Once again our family and friends pulled together to help our children achieve their goal. The generosity and kindness of others never ceases to amaze me and I will forever be thankful to the folks that help teach our children such a priceless lesson in giving to others year after year.

-Easter 2015!-

This was our first year with Budah grown and moved out. One of the things that mama’s don’t enjoy about their babies growing up.

We got a surprise visit from Gi-Gi! These little lovelies have come to truly love this kind soul. We were all happy that she was here in time to dye Easter eggs with us & even got to watch the girls wake up to see what Peter Cottontail brought for them and their Easter egg hunt before she had to say goodbye. Next time Paw-Paw needs to tag along:) All three girls helped with cooking dinner. Aub made the green bean casserole, Mad made deviled eggs, & Bitty made and decorated a cake. I simply love their help in the kitchen and enjoy teaching them family traditions and the secrets to family recipes.

Oh and how cute are these little peeps that Maw-Maw Shu Shu made for her grandbabies?

-Mad’s first field trip!-

Traditionally each year daddy & I have tried to split it up so that both of us get to experience the joy of our lil monsters’ school days. Usually he does field trips & I do class parties. This year however has been a little tricky and things have been exciting and busy for daddy at work. So I get to do field trips this year! Thankfully he’s been able to do a few class parties with me this year too! So Bitty & I were able to tag along for her kindergarten zoo field trip! It was lots of fun. Though I’m still not sure how this little munchkin is old enough for field trips? I can hardly wait to see what the future holds for our five year old lil monster and so thankful I’m able to be a housewife and watch so much of it first hand.

-Viva Fiesta!-

A first and a last, sigh. This year was Aub’s last school Fiesta float parade and Mad’s very first. It’s a school tradition I’ve come to love in Texas, mostly because it reminds me of my childhood too. We did Mardi Gras float parades and always looked forward to making one out of a shoe box. Each year we do a different theme. This year Aub’s was all about the color PURPLE! Her absolute favorite color. Mad’s was zoo themed since she had recently gone to the zoo. She has already decided next year should be a star wars float. Maw-Maw, Bitty, & I enjoyed watching all of the kiddos march through their school with so much pride over the floats they had made. And of course I got video for Daddy to watch two of his favorite little munchkins after work. Aub loved that we worked purple mardi Gras beads into her theme and Mad got so excited we started gluing every toy animal she could find including a dog and pig to her zoo themed float.

-My hubster-

This has been quite the exciting month for my love. He was one of a few selected for a six month program at work that brings huge opportunities his way! I really couldn’t be prouder of my better half. He works so hard for our family all the while still managing to keep up with our small veteran owned business and never allowing any of it to get in the way of our family time. My little self proclaimed black sheep is one helluva husband and father!

And just when we think things couldn’t get more exciting for him we get the word that a song he submitted was selected to be a bonus track on the Rancid tribute album….RANCID!!! Are you kidding me? This is a huge deal and such an incredible honor for him. I swear this man of mine stayed on cloud nine for days and rightfully so! It’s one thing for me to have such a blessing to be able to have watched him share his musical talent with our four lil monsters over the years. Memories of him playing guitars with our son and singing with our girls are cherished beyond words. Or the time he had a friend help him professionally record the Rascal Flatt song “Broken Road” for me for our anniversary. But this, this is a dream come true for him and I am beyond proud of him!

-Letter to GG-

Aub’s class has daily journal topics. Her teacher gave them a topic to write a letter to someone they miss. Aub wrote to my Maw-Maw that passed away seven years before I had her. We’ve always talked about her to our lil monsters a lot because she was such a huge part of my life. Really anyone that knew her would understand why. Aub shared her journal with me and said I could share it here. It absolutely melted this mama’s heart. She’s got such a genuine little soul and I have no doubt my Maw-Maw is watching over our children. We have a tradition of releasing balloons to “send them to heaven” to GG after any party since we live so far from her resting place. It’s something that has been a very special tradition to our lil monsters.

-Called to the office-

After having our lil Mad home sick for a week it of course made me nervous when I got a call from the school. Even more so when I realized it wasn’t about Mad at all, in fact it was a call from the assistant principal about Aub. Aub?

It turns out my instinct was right. There was no way I was getting a call from a principal because our daughter had done something wrong, quite the opposite! Aub’s teacher was given the task to select ONE student for a leadership award…and she picked our little girl! I of course would love to share the picture of her here happily holding her certificate and ribbon, with her big brown eyes full of pride and the sweetest smile ever. But we opt to never post things that include their schools name for safety reasons and I opt to not share pictures of our children on my blog for personal reasons. I will however say it was a very precious moment. And hearing the principal gushing over her actually made me cry. You see this little gal was so stressed last week over the STARR test, and this was exactly what she needed to boost her back up!

These are the things that were checked off on her certificate:
•Be proactive
•Begin with the end in mind
•First things first
•Think win-win
•Caring
•Trustworthy
•Respect
•Responsibility

And this is what her teacher wrote about her:
“Aub is always on task, prepared and an active listener. She truly takes school seriously and feels it is important. I am so lucky to have her in my class!”

We are so proud of her. She truly has such a huge heart and can easily be her worst critic. This was a special reminder of her daily hard work and well deserved. To surprise her after school Maw-Maw took the girls for ice cream. And after getting her dance pictures taken Daddy & I took her out for a special dinner just the three of us. Keep up the good work sugar plum, there is absolutely nothing you can’t do!

So I think I’m mostly caught up with this month. Hopefully I won’t fall behind so much on saving up these “special to us” memories!

Frankenstein & a lightsaber

Posted on

Mad likes to do her homework for the week on Monday and then do daily reading and sight words the rest of the  week. Today struck me funny and I had to share.

List 6 things that are green:

1. shamrock 2. grass 3. peas 4. green beans 5. leaves 6. Frankenstein

(Frankenstein was easily my favorite answer)

Write two sentences about what you would buy if you found a pot of gold:?

1. I would buy toys. 2. I would buy a lightsaber!

(At first she said she would buy a crib for Aub’s baby when they grow up. I suggested she write sentences about what she would buy for herself now.)

Daddy/Daughter Dance

Posted on

Last night Aub & Mad went to their first school dance…with their Daddy! A night I’m sure they will never forget! Aub got a new cute black and white lace chevron pattern dress & black ballet slippers and Mad was beyond thrilled to get a new baby blue dress shirt & her little first tie! Daddy even surprised Aub when he wore a dress shirt she had bought him a year or two ago for Father’s Day or his birthday (can’t remember which it was). Mad almost opted out of going originally because she thought she was going to have to wear a dress. She changed her mind quickly when she discovered we’d be shopping for the shirt and tie to go with her dickies and little red cons. She even wore a splash of Daddy’s cologne, while Aub opted for my perfume. Daddy bought Mad a boutonnière that was a red rose to match her cons with a little baby’s breath. He bought Aub a wrist corsage with a white rose, baby’s breath, and purple ribbon (her favorite color). Of course not to leave Bitty out he got her an “Anna” barbie doll from Frozen. After a few pictures they were off to their Alice in Wonderland themed Daddy/Daughter Dance! Aub looked absolutely stunning and Mad & Daddy were sure to be the two most handsome fellas there! They loved their time with Daddy and after a couple hours of dancing, coloring, & seeing friends they were home to tell me all about it!

I was in tears seeing them off. My Hubster has been Aub’s Daddy since she was still an infant. He has never loved Aub or Budah any different than he does Mad and Bitty. But something about watching him put that corsage on her little wrist last night and the way she lit up looking up at her Daddy with the sweetest smile and those big brown eyes was a moment that made my heart overflow with happiness for the two of them! She is one loved and blessed little girl to have such an amazing daddy!

Mad also melted me. Since she was two years old she didn’t like “girl things”. For the last three years Mad has considered herself a boy. She loves superhero tees and socks, little dickies slacks are her fave, all of her toys are “boy toys”. Her motto has remained “nothing pink & nothing sparkly”. There was no way we were going to force her into a foo foo dress to be someone she isn’t just so she could go to a dance. We love the little free spirit that she is. Watching her come out to show her big brother who happened to be here to visit for a few hours and the look of pride they both shared was complete conformation that allowing her to be who she wants to be is the only way! Unfortunately she had a girl at the dance point out that it was a daddy/DAUGHTER dance. And while it may have hurt her a little to have the girl snap at her, it didn’t waiver her in her choice to wear her “little boy outfit”. It didn’t prevent her from having a fabulous time at the dance with her Daddy and sister. And it didn’t keep her from asking if she could wear her tie to school on Monday. She did however run straight to me when they got home to tell me what happened. Daddy and I both reminded her that even if other people don’t understand her choices it doesn’t make it wrong. All that matters is that she is happy and she knows she is loved unconditionally and we’ll always support her. At the end of the day it didn’t ruin her night and oh my word did she look adorable!

I’m so thankful our monsters have a daddy that loves them and doesn’t hesitate to spend his Friday evening twirling his two little ones around on a dance floor. Just one of the many many thing I love so much about him.?

Pretty much all day long I’ve had Alice Cooper’s “Schools out for summer” stuck in my head. Today was our lil monsters last day of preschool and third grade. I’m looking forward to a summer of full days with them. We’re going to make a summer bucket list next week and see how much fun can be had over the next 86 days before they start kindergarten and fourth grade! But first things first, tomorrow we’re going to turn off alarm clocks and see who sleeps in the longest? My guess is it’ll still be Bitty!20140605-214433-78273837.jpg

The last week or so has been a rather busy one. Aub had her much anticipated 3rd grade wax museum. She was Judy Garland. These kiddos worked so hard to prepare for their big day and all did a fabulous job. Mad had her pre-k graduation. Afterwards all of the parents went to their class to see the work they had done all year. This was the first time all year that she asked to leave with us after a school event. She normally she looks forward to riding the bus home with Miss J. So we happily let her check out of school for her first time. We had a vendor day planned that day and she got to go work with us. She was so well behaved and loved helping and talking to our customers. Afterwards as promised she got to go down the “big slide” at daddy’s work FIVE times from the second floor down to the first since she would be turning five just a few days later. Then two days later our lil one celebrated her fifth birthday with a houseful of all of our local family and tons of friends. This week we began planning for Aub’s birthday. She can hardly wait! We do her party a few weeks early so that we can invite her classmates before school let’s out. I can hardly believe she will be turning NINE! Today was her 3rd grade award ceremony. She got awards for excellent behavior, academic achievement, hoops for hearts participant, & choir member. All three of our school aged monsters has worked hard over this last year. Budah plans to continue working on his home school through the summer. He’s maintained a 3.5 and above GPA all year while holding down the same job. Before we know it he will be graduating! Tomorrow will be the girls last day of pre-k and 3rd grade. Gifts are made for their teachers. “Last day of school” papers are printed for their end of school pictures. Doesn’t seem like it’s been that long since their first day of school. Not quite sure Mad gets the fact that she won’t be going back to this school after tomorrow. At least next year she’ll be going to school with her big sister. Until then this mama is anxious for a fun summer with our lil monsters!20140604-231941-83981616.jpg
